Villa Reviews
" We loved Tuscany and the villa was very nice, though I have a few recommendations I would suggest you pass along to anyone considering staying there. First, the road to the villa is, in a word, SCARY. It is very steep and narrow with extremely sharp curves and anyone not accustomed to driving on such would have a very hard time. Because there were so many of us we had to, of course, rent a large vehicle and on several occasions all the passengers had to exit the vehicle in order for me to get it up the final turn. It is not a task for the faint of heart. Actually, any driving in Italy is not for the faint of heart but I cannot imagine anyone being able to stay at that villa without having their own car - it is in a place where one could not find a taxi without preparation ahead of time and at great expense. Second, the caretaker, Bruno, lives in another part of the villa, but he works during the day and neither he nor his wife, who does the cleaning, speak any English. It is not readily apparent, upon arrival, where or how to find him and there are no signs to direct anyone. He is, however, very friendly and quite helpful if you can figure out how to communicate - I would recommend visitors having at least a rudimentary understanding of useful phrases for such a stay. Third, the telephone in the villa did not work, but we had pretty good cellular reception on at least two networks. Someone planning to use a phone card would be out of luck, though. Fourth, there are a total of four families that live in various buildings on the grounds of this villa. Privacy was not an issue, but visitors should know that there are others there of all ages who share the limited parking area and call it their home, complete with pet dogs and at least one rooster who is quite punctual in the mornings. I would also suggest that in your directions you make it clear that the villa is at the end of the final road accessed. This was not clear and there is another home just before the villa, which led to a bit of confusion. The phone number provided for "Ms. Morena" was not correct either, and Morena is actually the woman's first name (she's the Bruno's wife), not her last. I know this sounds as if we had several complaints, but these were all just small obstacles that we quickly overcame. We were all fairly experienced travelers though and we were, therefore, concerned that someone less so might have some real difficulty. All in all, though, it is a beautiful home with breathtaking views and a plethora of fruit-bearing trees throughout the property. When we got used to the drive in and out, we found it quite charming and enjoyed calling it our home for the week. "

Villa Description
La Madonnina is situated in a small hamlet in a very picturesque hillside setting near Camaiore reachable along 300 meters of unpaved road. The architect-designed restoration sympathetically blends the character of the old farmhouse with contemporary style. The house is on three floors, each connected by a spiral staircase. A striking feature of the property is the split-level swimming pool which consists of two pools connected by a small waterfall, beautifully integrated into the sloping olive groves. The lovely south-facing patio and loggia are ideal for 'al fresco' dining. The beaches of Versilia are only 10 KM away. The house has recently been featured in the style supplement of the Sunday Times.

- HEATING - Heating costs are not included in the price and must be paid directly on the spot to the owner or his/her representative before departing. Please note that heating in Italy, when not subject to restrictions by the local Government, is more expensive compared to other countries. If you look for a property in low season, make sure to ask for an estimate of the heating cost. You may be asked a supplementary deposit for heating expenses
- WATER AND ELECTRICITY - Please note that most of the properties that we offer are not the typical purpose-built Mediterranean holiday villas. Most are converted farmhouses or former manor houses, full of character and history. Water shortages do occur; please use it sparingly during the summer months. At the same time, Italy is probably one of the few countries in the world where the government has introduced a system of electricity limitators to contain the national consumption. This means you must be careful when using more than one appliance at once because the limitator will shut the electricity off
- INTERNET CONNECTION - Many of our properties have an internet connection. From our experience, when a connection is interrupted due to technical reasons beyond our control, it is unfortunately very difficult, despite our efforts, to receive immediate assistance from some of the internet providers operating in Italy. We therefore strongly suggest that those who need to access their emails should bring their own BlackBerry, or a similar portable device. Please note that in any case we cannot accept responsibility for lack of these services
- LOW SLUNG CARS - VANS - MINIBUSES - Most of our houses are located in the countryside. Some of them can be accessed only by unsealed roads and driveways. We therefore advise people intending to take a sports or low-slung car on holiday, to check with us first whether the access to the property allows for such a car. We advise against the use of vans and minibuses. Please always check with us, at the time of booking, if you are planning to use this type of vehicle when staying at one of our properties
